Welcome Home (…again)
Just as the title of this post suggests, things are back to normal on the web hosting front and I have re-started my personal blog. You may be reading this from my personal site or perhaps from my Facebook profile. I have added this nifty little application called Mirror Blog that adds to your mini-feed when ever you make a new blog post. Especially since I don’t really like Facebook’s way of blogging. I’ll be posting quite often now that I have everything up and running on a functional level on my new homepage. So here’s what has been going on…
{ Web Hosting }
I recently switched hosting companies from Dreamhost over to Media Temple and have been very happy with my decision. I have nothing bad to say about Dreamhost at all. In fact, I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for cheap, user-friendly web hosting. Their customer service is top notch and have quickly fixed all my screw ups. However, my service plan was up and I felt that I was time to move on to a new hosting company and test some new grounds. I moved over to Media Temple after doing some research on graphic design oriented web hosting. I have been working with them for the last month or so and I have been absolutely pleased with my choice. The (gs) Grid-Service that I have signed up for has more than enough power to host what I’m currently developing. Their super easy interface is not only intuitive but easy on the eyes as well. Dreamhost’s admin interface is easy to use as well, but I must admit, is not very pretty. Sorry, but the graphic designer in me must have it both ways.
{ New Websites }
Speaking of new websites, I have been hard at work on two new sites right now. The first has been dubbed, NullPixel.org and will be released in it’s final stage in a few weeks. This site was envisioned as a resource tool for Flash designers like myself that have the design education to create projects but not necessarily the coding background in order to make that project come to life. The inspiration fro this site came from scouring the internet for examples or tutorials on a specific aspect of Actionscript 3, now that Adobe has updated the language and I am not as familiar with it as I should be. It became clear that there are few sites out there that do a great job of explaining in detail practical applications of code. And with me being primarily a designer, learning how to do Object-Oriented Programing has been a daunting task. So I am setting out to create the goto place for designers when they need advice on how to make something work in AS3.
The other site I’m working on is partly connected to NullPixel.org, and will serve as a parrelel site to showcase my work as a designer. It is called NullPixelDesign.com and will be worked on after I wrap up NullPixel.org. I currently have my old portfolio site up there, but in a few months, it will receive a complete overhaul. I’ll make sure to post about it in the future.
{ Puppy Time }
It has been over 6 years since I have had a dog around me all the time and I miss it a lot. Well the wait is finally over. My wife and I have finally come to an agreement on what type of dog to get. And we are currently looking for a Yellow Lab puppy to call our own. We have a meeting with a breeder later this week and hope to find exactly what we are looking for. I mean, how can you say no to a face like this. [Puppy Photo]
Well thats all for now. Back to work!
